Pongamia Products

There are several non-edible oil yielding trees that can be grown to produce biofuel and for agriculture use. Pongamia (Karanja) is one of the most suitable trees in this category. It is widely grown in various parts of India. Pongamia pinnata is the widely grown species. The scientific name is, “Pongamia pinnata”, or “P.glabra” and it belongs to Leguminiceae family. 

Salient features of Pongamia Tree-

  • Pongamia Tree is a Nitrogen fixing tree and hence enriches the soil fertility
  • Pongamia Tree is generally not grazed by animals
  • Pongamia Tree is tolerant to water logging, saline, and alkaline soils
  • Pongamia Tree can withstand harsh climates (medium to high rainfall)
  • Pongamia Tree can be planted on degraded, waste/fallow, and cultivable lands
  • Pongamia seeds contain 30-40% oil
  • Pongamia Tree helps in controlling soil erosion, and binding sand dunes, because of its dense network of lateral roots
  • Its root, bark, leaves, sap, and flower have medicinal properties. Dried leaves are used as an insect repellent for stored grains

Pongamia Cold Press Oil  (Karanja oil )

Cold press Pongamia Oil is derived from Pongamia seed through cold press expeller process. Pongamia Oil has yellow-orange to brown color, that deepens in different quality and standards.. It has a bitter taste, uncomfortable odour, and is non-edible.

1)Pure  Pongamia cold press Oil (Karanjin): karanjin > 2500 PPM
2)Pongamia cold press Oil (Karanjin) Emulsified Concentrate (Water soluble formulation for crops protection spray):  Karanjin > 2000 PPM

Pongamia Oil EC for agriculture use : 

  • Pongamia Oil EC can be used as natural and organic bio pesticide. It can be also mixed with  neem oil and other natural oils
  • Pongamia oil EC use as a bio-pesticide gives very good result in different  diseases of the crops such as Armyworm Corn stem borer, Citrus, Citrus leafminer, Rice caseworm, Potato Tuber Moth, Pulse beetle, Plant Hopper, Whiteflies etc.

  • Pongamia is used as a biofuel, and many others applications such as in  insecticide products, leather industries, and agrochemicals
  • Pongamia can be used in lighting lamps, as a lubricant, in tanning industries, water-paint binder, soap, shampoo and different kind cosmetics products
